Buzzy Peaches

Toronto Police aren’t laying charges against a parent whose kids consumed infused gummies because “initial investigation revealed the product was purchased legally.”

But even a half-second inquiry would conclusively establish the edibles were unlicensed? What gives?

To be clear, I do NOT support criminal sanctions for cannabis offences. So I am glad to see police exercising discretion.

What’s confusing is cops’ steadfast position that the edibles were purchased legally. Apart from plain packaging, legal edibles are capped at 10mg.

From the press release: “Since many of these products have similar packaging to non-cannabis products, it is also strongly recommended that children cannot see or have access to the place in which they are stored.”

🤔🤔🤔

Legal edibles looks NOTHING like non-cannabis products.

Now, I’ve repeatedly advocated for loosening the restrictions on marketing & packaging. The rules are so stringent as to effectively prevent companies from developing strong visual brands.

But there’s a whole world between “painfully plain” and “imitates kid-friendly snacks.”

PSA: Keep your edibles (unlicensed or not) away from children!

h/t Harrison Jordan for pushing back against the official police statement, even after they doubled down.
