Hybrid Teaching
The current government instruction for school boards is to provide online learning for 2021-2022, but without extra funding. Doug Ford & Stephen Lecce are reportedly contemplating making “synchronous learning” permanent.
Ontario’s world class education system is being dismantled.
Kids need to get back to school ASAP. Most families aren’t equipped (in any sense) for online learning. How is it that schools haven’t been prioritized for safe re-opening from the outset?
I am mindful that synchronous learning options might be helpful to some students, especially those with chronic illnesses who may have irregular attendance schedules. But this poorly thought out, unsubsidized, one-size-fits-all approach won’t cut it.
Editor’s Note: I was schooled in the comments about calling Ontario’s education system “world class” without acknowledging the extent to which it regularly fails students with learning disabilities, BIPOC students, and students in low-income areas, among others. This is true. While I believe that Ford and Lecce are creating even worse conditions for these demographics, I was remiss with my generalization.
