You Can’t Sit With Us
There’s no mistaking the data: the legal profession has a problem with systemic racism. I’m frustrated by the StopSOP brigade. They are derailing important conversations about how to effect meaningful change and improve diversity. Enough is enough.
For so-called conscientious objectors, I would be open to a discussion about “opting out” of the Statement of Principles (SOP) requirement. However, anyone exercising this option should be required to pay a levy to fund diversity initiatives. .
It is a privilege to practice law, not a right. The SOP simply affirms existing obligations. .
